Overall Rating Of ZTE Quartz : 7.6 / 10
Smartphones revolutionized technology and then technology took a step further.. “Smartwatches” and pretty soon every one wanted them. Being able to carry around the same functionalities of a Smartphone around your wrist is a ‘want’ all around, almost all mobile companies tended towards providing the device. Smartwatches launched were always so expensive and users could not be convinced that spending over $300 on a smartwatch was such an attractive idea. That’s when ZTE rolled in ZTE Quartz, ZTE a chines multinational company recently made its first Android wear as always focused on being inexpensive. Its first product was launched on April 21st 2017.
- Powered by Android 2.0
- Excellent battery capacity
- Smooth and quick performance
- Budget friendly
- No NFC
- Huge size and thick strap
- No heart rate monitor
- Smartwatch payment not available
Though ZTE’s motive was to inspire us with something affordable and yet appealing it lost its touch when considering the design. When coming to competition a refreshing design would have been better but unfortunately ZTE didn’t bring out something new. The silicone blue and black strap of the watch looks more sporty than classy and its extremely thick . That’s not so bad provided that you can also take off the strap and interchange it with other options. A single button lies at 2-clock of the watch which works as the home button, takes you to your installed apps and by long pressing the button you can easily access the Google assistant. Maybe something creative in place of the physical home button would have boosted the design.
Quartz has a stainless steel case housed with a gorilla glass 3 front and a plastic back. The face of the watch can also be customized with whatever you prefer. When it comes to the display its amazing with vibrant color contrasts it provides better viewing indoors than outside in daylight. One of the best feature of Quartz is its 500 mAh battery which easily gets you through about 24 hours with approximately 20% battery life remaining. The users can however increase the battery life by enabling only certain features.
ZTE Quartz comes powered with Android wear 2.0 and a 1.4 inch AMOLED round display, the processor is Qualcomm Snapdragon 2100, a RAM of 768 Mb with an internal storage of 4 GB. Yes its all stocked up and its specs make it sound like any high end device. Apps can be accessed quickly without any lag, the internal speaker works top notch and the voice recognizing capability is also excellent. Some additional features of the smartwatch is GPS tracking system, its a great for usage during work out because you can access calls or music without having to drag around your smartphone. It also features as a fitness tracker, however a heart rate monitor is missing and those who work out will not be happy with that.
Overall ZTE Quartz has manipulating features including large storage, large battery, GPS, loud and clear calls; But its missing out on features which most smartwatch users are attracted towards, like payment via smartwatch or heart rate monitoring. The design of the watch is a simple and clear set back, its huge strap and extra weight does not draw attention. This watch is for someone who wants to purchase a smartwatch not more than $200, wants a semi sport watch, and has wrist’s to match the size and built of the watch. Along with other aspects the user will not be disappointed.
